THE INTERVIEW

What are you working on right now?

A commercial for a hotel in the Caribbean.

What does “inclusivity” mean to you?

A team and set that has people of all races, sexual orientations, and perspectives.

What is the hardest part of your job, and what is the most fun?

Hardest part is juggling all the requests that are usually non-emergencies but are treated as such. The funnest part is getting to step on a set and know I got it all there.

You have worked on a number of super inclusive projects. Which one do you feel most embodies the idea of inclusivity and why?

Probably SYLVIE, the feature I just shot earlier this year. The story itself was rooted in the African-American community and our cast &crew were mainly people of color.

If given the opportunity to work with anyone in the industry that you haven’t worked with yet, who would it be and what would be your dream collaboration?

Ryan Coogler or Destin Daniel Cretton. A sweeping love story in the vein of the Notebook, but with a diverse cast.

Do you think the industry has changed or is changing at all in the post #metoo era? In what way(s)?

Slowly, but surely. The awareness has been tremendous. It’s my observation that the younger generation coming up,  especially men, tend to automatically treat women as equals, whereas the older generations make you feel like you constantly have to demand it

What is one thing everyone can do to help create a more inclusive industry?

Take the time to find and hire those people. There’s such a turnover rate in production, so that even if it doesn’t work out, at least you are giving them a shot.

Who, currently working in the industry, inspires you?

Ava Duvernay.

Name a movie you think everyone should see.

Green Book.

What would you like to promote? (can be your own project, someone elses, an organization, a cause, a movie, company, brand, whatever)

I just launched a podcast called LIFE WITH CACA with features intimate and honest conversations with producers across the entertainment industry. A few eps have dropped with Eva Longoria and Alana Mayo. Check it out! @lifewithcaca | lifewithcaca.com
